  • The present microbial accession status of NCVTC has reached a mark of 4000 accessioned microbes including clones and DNA.
  • Zoonotic viruses and bacteria in its repository: Notable among them include camelpox viruses, buffalopoxvirus isolates; Japanese encephalitis virus. Zoonotic bacteria: Rhodococcus equi from foals, Listeria spp., Salmonella spp., EHEC, Burkholderia mallei, Aeromonas hydrophila from fish, etc.
  • First isolation and molecular identification of Trupenella pyogenes,Enterococcus asini from horse, Exiguobacterium spp. from pig , Bordetella bronchiseptica from horse, First isolation and characterization of Actionobacillus equilli from foal, Staphylococcus hyicus from pig, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis and Corynebacterium bovis from horse, Methicillin-resistant Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus sciuri from pigs,Camelpox zoonosis- first report in the world.
  • Important Rumen fungi and Bacteria: the important Rumen fungi and Bacteria isolated and accessioned include bacteria and fungi isolates. Important rumen fungi isolates in the repository include Omyces joyonii, Orpinomyces intercalaris, Anaeromyces sp., Piromyces sp., Neocallimastix sp., while bacterial isolates include Bacillus licheniformis, Butyrivibrio sp., Eubacterium limosum, Megasphaera elsdenii, Olsenella sp., Prevotella sp., Streptococcus bovis, Streptococcus equines, Streptococcus gallolyticus, Streptococcus lutetiensis, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Veillonella parvula, etc.
  • Prominent Dairy Microbes in the Collection with commercial potential include -L. lactis and Leuconostoc sps. leuconostoc selected for dahi preparation, Streptococcus thermophilus EPS positive, uconostoc spp. –Mannitol producing- Leuconostoc spp. – Phytase degrading- Lactobacillus spp.
